- With better stoves, UN aims to cut risk of murder, rape for women seeking firewood, 16 December 2009 by UN News Center: "The United Nations today launched a pilot project to provide fuel-efficient stoves to some 150,000 women in Sudan and Uganda to cut the risks of murder, rape and other violence they face in gathering firewood, while at the same time protecting the environment."
- "'Women and girls should not have to risk their lives and dignity, and precious trees should not be lost, in the simple act of trying to cook food for their families,' WFP Executive Director Josette Sheeran said. 'The SAFE stoves launch will help protect them and the environment with practical and urgently needed solutions.'"[1]
- NFC to invest up to $80 million in reforestation for energy project in Uganda, 29 January 2008, Biopact. The article claims that the project by New Forest Company will prove in part that biomass production is not just based on deforestation. In this case, they argue that lack of woody biomass in Uganda and the rest of Africa is contributing to deforestation
- Uganda to get gelfuel and ethanol plant. According to Biopact, a local investor plans to set up the plant, which will make gelfuels and ethanol from cassava and sugarcane waste products.
- Biofuel plantations fuel strife in Uganda. New Scientist, 19 April 2007. President Yoweri Museveni's plan to hand over a large portion of a protected forest to a sugarcane plantation has fueld controversy and political strife.
