9 January 2009 - The BioenergyWiki is very pleased to host discussions of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels, a multi-stakeholder initiative supported by the Swiss government and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.

  • We are very happy to be able to support this effort to develop sustainability standards for biofuels through an open and transparent process.
  • As draft standards and other documents become available they will be open for comment and editing on the BioenergyWiki.
  • Hopefully, this will allow a wider range of participation in the process and bring voices to the table that would not normally be heard in a process like this.
  • We will be updating on the progress of the RSB on a regular basis, so continue to check here for updates.

15 April 2007

This promises to a be a big week on the BioenergyWiki! So keep watching this space for some exciting announcements.

1 April 2007

We are currently doing a big reorganization of the policy section. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, please post them here.

  • We are pleased to welcome our first guest wiki blog, Notes From the Road. A team of crack bioenergy experts will be racing from D.C. to Costa Rica in an old VW running on vegetable oil and biodiesel, stopping at bioenergy projects along the way. We are looking forward to hearing about their adventures as well as the different projects they will be visiting!

15 March 2007

We have added to new sections to our sidebar over the last two weeks, and have just added a new search feature.

  • The policy section will be an area that collects information on specific developments in government policy that have been scattered across the site in the regions and other pages.
  • The sustainability standards section will follow the various governmental and nongovernmental attempts to produce clear social and environmental criteria for biomass production.
  • On a more technical side, we now have a google search link, which will take you to a page that will let you search bioenergywiki.net through the google search engine. We have added this because the Mediawiki search engine doesn't allow 3-letter search strings: so a search for "WTO" turns up nothing. We hope to integrate the google search in a more organic manner in the near future.

8 March 2007

We have been pleased to see a number of new people register to edit the wiki over the last week! If you are curious about who has edited the wiki recently, click on the recent changes button in the toolbox on the lower left side of the screen.

  • You can see who edited the wiki and when, as well as look at all the earlier versions of a page.
  • We encourage everyone to provide more information and resoures in order to make this site the premier location for information on bioenergy on the web.
  • Another way people can help is by putting up links to the BioenergyWiki on their own sites.
  • Wikis are all about creating a community, so we would like to send out a hearty welcome to everyone who has joined ours!

1 March 2007

As part of the upgrade we have been working on, the wiki can now display rss feeds, which allow an automatic syndication of headlines from other sites. Using this technology you can now get a comprehensive overview of bioenergy news on one page! Check out news from other sites!

  • We will continue to hand-pick some of the more interesting news items from the around world.
  • If you want to add a news item, you still need to create a log-in and password for yourself.
  • Besides just adding news items or links to new studies and publications you can also create an entirely new page for information on your organization, project or anything else related to bioenergy. Check out how to edit...

6 February 2007

The wiki no longer requires password protection to view! This is a major first step in our launch of the wiki as as resource for a more general audience.

  • If you wish to edit or create pages, you still need to create a log-in and password for yourself.
  • If you are interested in adding something to the wiki but aren't sure where to start check out the to do page and then click on what links here in the toolbox on the lower left hand side of the screen. These are all the pages that we have flagged as in need of substantial work.

But anything you can contribute, a link to a news story, publication, or a useful statistic are all helpful.

  • You can also create an entirely new page for information on your organization, project or anything else related to bioenergy.

29 January 2007

The Bioenergy wiki is really starting to become a major resource on bionergy.

  • The wiki now has direct links to over a 100 different reports, policy papers, scientific papers and other publications dealing with bioenergy and biofuels in the US, Brazil, China and elsewhere.
  • We also have links to hundreds of different news articles on a variety of subjects.
  • The glossary now has over 200 entries with more being added all the time.
  • However, in order to make this page the real resource it needs to be, we need your help! Take 5 minutes to add a fact or section to a page, or post a link to a news story or article. Then when you need to find it again, you will know right where it is: on the wiki, and connected and linked to other valuable information.
  • Do you have a fact-sheet on a bioenergy topic? Why not copy it on to a page of the wiki...we will even format it for you! Then if someone asks you for more information, you can just send them here.
  • We promise that just taking a few minutes to add things, will soon return vast dividends in time saved!

22 January 2007

Today I have created pages for the UNDP's Multifunctional platform and started a stub page for uses of jatropha in rural development. I also have created a page for biobutanol, a possible substitute for ethanol, which has higher energy content and is easier to use in existing infrastructure. Identical problems in terms of where the [feedstock]] will come from. Hopefully tommorow I will take a cut at working on some feedstock infoboxes tommorow.
