Criterion:
3.f The preferred methodology for GHG lifecycle assessment is as such:

  • The functional unit shall be CO2 equivalent (in kg) per Giga Joule [kgCO2equ/GJ]
  • The greenhouse gases covered shall include CO2, N2O and CH4. The most recent 100-year time horizon Global Warming Potential values and lifetimes from the IPCC shall be used.

Guidelines:
Functional unit as MJ, including the CO2 equivalent GHG emissions from the eventual fuel combustion.
 We could have a second expression of biofuels performance in land used (metric ha).
 Land use change is important and could be expressed in metric ha but the calculation of its direct effect is very complicated and of its indirect almost impossible, for the moment.
 Land use efficiency taking into account the different types of soil can be one indicator (among others) than enable an expression of the biofuel performance.
