Talk:Biopropane

There is a standard laboratory scale synthesis for making methane from acetic acid by destructively distilling it with caustic soda. It strikes me as possible that doing the same with butyric acid might yield propane - though of course there are more pathways available when you are working with larger molecules. Anyhow, the point is that it is straightforward to make butyric acid by fermentation from simple feedstocks. The possibility struck me when I read up about biobutanol, which a company is planning to make by on-fermenting a butyric acid intermediate. PML.
