- Yoma to venture into bio-diesel in Myanmar October 31, 2006 from the The Business Times Singapore. "Property developer Yoma Strategic Holdings - which recently became the first Myanmar play on the Singapore Exchange - already has plans to go into the bio-diesel industry in Myanmar. Mr Pun said that Yoma hopes to venture into the upstream part of biofuel production by developing a jatropha curcas plantation in Myanmar."
- South Africa's President wants national biofuels strategy ready for publication in November October 25, 2006 by Creamer Media's Engineering News. Southern African Biofuels Association (Saba) president and Absa bank agribusiness GM Andrew Makenete stated that President Mbeki has instructed the biofuels task team and Cabinet to have the national biofuels strategy ready for publication in November, which was previously supposed to go through a lengthy process of feedback before finalization.
- "The development of the biofuels industry is one of three key priority sectors of the government’s Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (Asgisa)".
- The national biofuels strategy will provide will spell out, among others, government policy on mandatory blending, procurement as well as national interventions and incentives.
- The University of Missouri and the University of Pretoria have completed an econometric model to measure the potential macro- and microeconomic effects of the biofuels industry, and to inform the identification of new farmland, outside of current commercial production, for black economic-empowered (BEE) farmers.
- Ethiopia: Ministries Looking to Alternative Fuel October 24, 2006 by www.allafrica.com. As the price of fuel increases on the international oil market, Ethiopia has set its sights on ethanol and bio-diesel to guarantee the supply of affordable fuel in the future.
- Nippon Oil, Toyota to develop biofuel October 24, 2006 by the Yomiuri Shinbun. Nippon Oil Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. of Japan "are to jointly develop a new diesel fuel made from palm oil, in conjunction with the Malaysian state-run petroleum company Petronas."
- Texas Mesquite Trees Considered for Cellulosic Ethanol October 20, 2006 by MSNBC. "The Texas A&M Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Lockett is working on a project dubbed the "Mesquite Alternative Fuel Project," which will study the feasibility of harvesting mesquite and turning it into cellulosic ethanol." There are 52 million acres of mesquite in texas and it is considered perfect for harvesting because of its high regrowth rate.
