- Neste Oil to build world's largest biodisel plant in Singapore. (Press release) 30 November 2007. Neste Oil plans to invest €550 million in a biodiesel plant in Singapore with a capacity of 800,000 tonnes per year. The company claims that this will be the "largest facility producing diesel fuel from renewable feedstocks anywhere."[1]
- A dirty way to fight climate change - 29 November 2007 by Steven I. Apfelbaum and John Kimble on Yahoo News: The authors recommend the sequestration of carbon in soils, which they describe as "one of the most overlooked yet most effective and inexpensive strategies" for climate change mitigation. - EU officials propose ban on genetically modified corn seeds (International Herald Tribune), 22 November 2007. "European Union environment officials have determined that two kinds of genetically modified corn could harm butterflies, modify food chains and disturb life in rivers and streams, and they have proposed a ban on the sale of the seeds, which are made by Pioneer Hi-Bred, Dow Agrosciences and Syngenta."
- Japan eyes affordable cellulosic ethanol technology, 21 November 2007, from ENN/Reuters, reports that Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced plans "to introduce new, cost-efficient technology for producing cellulosic ethanol by 2015," aiming to reduce the cost of producing ethanol from waste wood "to 100 yen (91 cents) per liter ($3.45 per gallon) from more than 2,000 yen now."
- South Korea Interested in Aggressively Acquiring Biofuels Technology, 19 November 2007 (Korea Times). South Korea plans to spend $21.8 million by 2010 on biofuels.
- BIO Pacific Rim Summit Speakers Explore Role of Government in Promoting Biofuels, 15 November 2007 (Business Wire). "Key Drivers Behind Government Efforts Are Need for Renewable Energy, Environmental Concerns and Pace of Technological Advances".
- Syngenta in biofuels breakthrough, 11 November 2007 (Financial Times). Development of a corn seed including an enzyme which could simplify the producton process of biofuel production.
- Paying farmers to protect the environment?, FOA Newsroom. The FAO said in its annual publication The State of Food and Agriculture that carefully targeted payments to farmers could serve as an approach to protect the environment.
- Governments must take the lead on use of biofuels, says UN Secretary-General, UN News Center. During his official trip to Brazil Mister Ban Ki-moon emphasised that "National governments must take the lead in managing their use and ensuring that the benefits outweigh the costs".
- Renewable Fuels Agency starts up in the UK, Press release from the U.K. Department for Transportation: A new agency to manage Britain's commitment to biofuels was established Monday 5 November 2007 by Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly.
- Hillary Clinton outlines ambitious biofuels plan: 60 billion gallons by 2030, From Biopact: Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton outlined her plan to dramatically increase biofuels production in the United States.
- Trees for Clean Energy Project: Kenyan farmers to benefit from biofuels in semi-arid zones , 7 November from Biopact, 950 small farmers are learning how to cultivate jatropha as a new economic opportunity in Kenya.
- China Holdings to build second 50MW biomass co-generation plant in Anhui, 7 November from Biopact, the CAPS II pyrolysis system will provide 50MW of power as part of China's stated goal of reaching 30GW power from biomass by 2030.
- US and EU block Brazilian attempt to slash biofuel tariffs at WTO (International Herald Tribune). Brazil's attempt to include biofuels among the "environmental goods" whose tariffs would be significantly reduced are blocked.
- Brazil case accents need for new biofuels rules. Brazil is preparing to finally take their case against US ethanol tariffs before the WTO.
