Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are living organisms whose genome has been artificially modified by man (through biotechnology), for example to improve resistance to plagues in the case of crops.

GMOs also include organisms developed for the processing of biofuels, a very promising area of research and development. Hopefully, things like drought, disease tolerance, and adaptation to new ecosystems, rather than pesticide resistance, will become a focus of GMO crop development in the future.
