The term "carbon offset" refers to a measure taken to improve the carbon balance of a product or service in addition to the product or service itself. Such measures often take the form of projects involving reforestation, improved energy efficiency or energy conservation. Standards and verification procedures are essential for ensuring the validity of such measures.
