Template:Wiki hint
From BioenergyWiki
Today's Wiki tip: You may have noticed that there are now two search boxes on the left hand side of the screen. One of these is the original MediaWiki search bar and the other uses the google engine.
- The MediaWiki search bar will take you directly to pages or find your search string in the text of the "mark-up", like what you see when you edit a page. This function will not find strings shorter then 4 characters, so a search for "WTO" will not show anything.
- The Google search uses the standard google search engine to search the wiki.
- Both of these engines have their strengths, weakness, and quirks. So we recommend trying both if you are trying to find specific information!

So you want to edit the wiki, but you are not comfortable by all of the "wiki-markup"? Remember that you can do all the basic functions with the row of buttons that appear on the top of the edit box. You can
- bold
- italic
- wikilink
- External-link - example: Google
- You can also create headlines, insert image and media files, or even sign your comments, just by a click of the button! (example: --Dgilman 16:33, 9 April 2007 (CEST))
- Also check out the Editing cheatsheet for a simple overview of the most important "mark-up" methods.

Do you know how you can customize your settings on the wiki? Just click on the my preference link at the very top of the screen and you can edit your user profile information, and customize editing and other features!

- Remember that you can create a User page for yourself by clicking your login name at the top of the screen.
- You can also create a discussion page for any page in the wiki, by clicking the discussion tab above the page name.
- Use these pages to ask questions, make comments and suggest improvements! A wiki is a great place to share both ideas and information.
- The "what links here" button in the toolbox section on the lower-left side of the screen will tell you all the pages in the wiki that have a link to the page you are on. So if you go to the biodiesel page, and look you can see all the places where biodiesel has been wiki-linked. This allows for a new way to search for information on a topic!
