Remineralization is the process of restoring or supplementing the minerals and trace elements in soil.

Contents

Benefits

Remineralization increases the fertility of the soils that sustain crops and forests and may help increase the sequestration of carbon in the soil, which can contribute to climate stabilization.

According to the website of Natural Gardening Solutions, rock dust can provide "slow, natural release of elements and trace minerals" and increase "the nutrient intake of plants".[1]

Organizations

Remineralize the Earth

Logo of the NGO, Remineralize the Earth.
  • Remineralize the Earth -- RTE "promotes the regeneration of soils and forests worldwide with finely ground rock dust as a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers and pesticides, creating fertile soils much as the Earth does."[2]

Projects

  • Agroforestry Project in Costa Rica: Food, Fuel, and Income to Sustain Local Communities
    • A model project intercropped with commercial hardwoods, fruit trees, and Jatropha, which produces a sustainable biofuel while regenerating the soil. This project is directed by award-winning ecological designer Dr. John Todd of Ocean Arks International (OAI.)
  • Real Food Campaign
    • Will make Nutrient Dense Food available in the marketplace and create a new standard for food quality.
    • Coordinates and supports all programs that produce healthier and more nutrient-dense crops for our food supply.
    • The campaign will achieve its objectives by focusing on the incentives of the constituencies involved. Through popularizing these principles and techniques, RFC hopes to assist farmers and consultants in increasing overall crop yield and quality, and attaining environmental benefits. For the consumer, the higher nutritional quality of NDF is demonstrated by superior taste, a longer shelf life, and a vast range of health benefits.
  • Become a Carbon Neutral Program
    • Our partnership effort with OAI is the only carbon-offset program utilizing soil remineralization, and is unequaled in both overall growth and carbon sequestration.

Events

  • 25-27 February 2009, Las Vegas, NV, USA: RETECH 2009 - RETECH (Renewable Energy Technology Conference and Exhibition)
    • A booth at RETECH 2009 will be shared by RPM Ecosystems LLC, the International Biochar Initiative, Remineralize the Earth and The Real Food Campaign[3]
