- Asia biodiesel makers hedge risks 30 January 2007 from The Standard: China's Business Newspaper. Asia's big biodiesel producers are starting to secure their green investments by hedging against falling oil prices and rising feedstock costs.
- Food vs. Fuel 5 February 2007, from Business Week. As biofuels like ethanol use up more and more food crops, the economics of agriculture is changing.
- Chile’s Biofuel Committee Announces Recommendations 24 January 2007, from the Santiago Times. Chile's public-private biofuel committee made 21 recommendations including a 2% blending mandate which would then be increased to a maximum level of 5% biofuel.
- Bush Administration proposes Cellulosic Ethanol funding 24 January 2007, from Domestic Fuel. As part of the President's Twenty in Ten proposal, USDA will be proposing $1.6 billion in new funding for renewable energy, with a focus on cellulosic energy research and production as part of the administration’s 2007 Farm Bill proposals.
- Cellulosic Ethanol Takes Off! Engineering commences for the first US pulp mill based biorefinery 23 January 2007 from American Process, Inc. Flambeau River Biorefinery, LLC of Wisconsin has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with American Process Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia to provide project management and engineering services for its cellulosic ethanol project at Park Falls, Wisconsin.
- Biodiesel Sweeps China in Controversy 23 January 2007 from Renewable Energy Access. China is looking at new biodiesel feedstocks including a new variety of rapeseed, Chinese Pistachio and jatropha. However, standards and regulations are lacking and concerns over food vs fuel are growing.
- Brazil To Gain 123 New Biofuel Plants By 2010 22 January 2007 from www.cattlenetwork.com. US$8.1 billion is likely to be invested in Brazil's biofuels sector over the next four years, yielding a confirmed 77 new ethanol mills and 46 new biodiesel plants by 2010 and giving the country a production capacity of 23.3 bil. liters of ethanol and 3.34 bil. liters of biodiesel.
- SamoaFiber to produce pyrolysis oil from Gynerium sagittatum 18 February 2007 from Biopact. The company is going to use the tall, fast-growing C4 grass Gynerium sagittatum as a feedstock for a fast pyrolysis plant. The plant grows in a wide range of areas, but particularly in the Amazon basin.
- Sunopta Updates on Cellulosic Ethanol Projects 18 January 2007 from Greencarcongress.com. SunOpta Inc. provided an update on the status of four cellulosic ethanol projects using a variety of cellulosic biomass including woodchips, corn stover, sugar cane bagasse, and wheat straw. The projects are in China, Spain, Canada and Louisiana.
- Making the desert bloom - with fuel-yielding plants 16 January 2007 from flightglobal.com. "A NASA scientist is confident that commercial aircraft could be powered using a type of biofuel derived from saltwater plants (halophytes), grown in desert areas and irrigated using sea water.
- ASEAN To Tighten Cooperation On Energy Security 15 January 2007 from Malaysian National News Agency. ASEAN has agreed to strengthen regional cooperation on energy security, including biofuels.
- Nothing flat about tortilla prices - Some in Mexico cost 60 percent more, leading to a serious struggle for low-income people 13 January 2007 from the San Fransisco Chronicle. Tortilla prices in Mexico have risen as much as 60%. Some blame increased corn prices caused by US ethanol production, while others look at monopolies.
- MIT analysis of corn ethanol says net-energy can go either way 8 January 2007 from MIT news office. The analysis shows that the energy balance of corn ethanol is so close that several factors can easily change whether it ends up a net energy winner or loser, while cellulosic ethanol was positive. In all cases there was a reduction in oil consumption.
- Indonesia the Focus of Massive $12.4 Billion in Biofuels Investments 9 January 2007 from Greencarcongress.com. 67 contracts representing US$12.4 bil. in investment for all aspects of biofuels development in Indonesia have been signed, under a government program called the Joint Initiative for Biofuel Development.
- NPRA says it will not support Biofuels Security Act of 2007 5 January 2007 from Biofuel Review. The National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (USA) will not support the proposed “Biofuels Security Act of 2007,” which would increase the renewable fuels standard to 30 bil. gallons in 2020 and require oil companies to carry E-85 at half their service stations by 2017.
- Malaysian company to invest 1.4 billion ringgit in ethanol from nypa palm - 5 January 2007 from The Star Online. Malaysian company Pioneer Bio Industries Corp Sdn Bhd will invest no less than 1.4 billion ringgit (€304/US398 million) to set up the first refinery plant to produce nypa ethanol on a large scale.
